Specs:
I bought this motherboard and CPU card loose on eBay for about $50, but that's all it came with. No case, power supply, cables, anything. Just loose board and card. Pulling out Hela to borrow her parts, I threw the 1GB of PC133 memory and Radeon 9000 Pro on it and... Yep. It's now my fastest tested PowerPC Mac in terms of graphics, due to relieving the 2x AGP bottleneck from the Gigabit Ethernet architecture, and the third fastest in terms of CPU, beaten only by my 1.33GHz G4 laptops. Though my 1.33GHz 12" PowerBook G4 hasn't had graphics benchmarks on Tiger run yet.
Plans for this include modding an ATX PC case to fit the PowerMac motherboard layout and building a reverse sleeper!
The first motherboard died unexpectedly sometime between when I benchmarked it on Sunday night and pulled it out again for tinkering Tuesday evening. Funny enough, shortly after I created the entry. I was honest with the seller, basically saying the board has ceased booting correctly. It will chime, but sometime between the chime being played and the board displaying video the system would lock up. The capslock light sticks on, the CPU and GPU are continuing to draw power and warm up, but it never boots to the OS or a question mark folder icon. I didn't know whether it was something I did or if it was already dying, but the board did have a pretty significant warp in it.
All of the parts work in Hela, the CPU card is good, the GPU and RAM are both good. So it has to be the motherboard. The seller didn't even ask for it back, they just dispatched a replacement. That should be here on Sunday, the 11th.
In the meantime, I have been advised to use the faulty board for "torture", while leaving the hopefully good incoming motherboard for the actual final build. Test it, keep it somewhere safe, and use the broken one for mockups.
Noctua LGA-2011 mounting hardware does fit on here so that's pretty fun. It was interesting seeing an NH-D15 on a PowerMac G4. Way too heavy though, the board is not strong enough for that.
As it stands, the target parts list is as follows:
